RE Technologies GmbH and HASSLACHER Green Tower GmbH Partner for Sustainable Timber-Hybrid Towers in Europe

Hamburg, Germany RE Technologies GmbH, the global R&D organisation of Senvion India, is making significant progress in sustainable energy solutions through a partnership with HASSLACHER Green Tower GmbH to create timber-hybrid towers for its newly launched 4.2M160 wind turbine. This partnership represents a notable step forward in technology and sustainability, highlighting RE Technologies' dedication to an environmentally friendly future. Senvion India | RE Technologies GmbH is committed to delivering sustainable solutions and is currently investigating alternative material technology for its towers at 4XM, in addition to utilizing traditional materials. The ongoing feasibility study regarding wooden towers will soon be completed. The towers will undergo comprehensive testing on a prototype and receive certifications prior to serialisation.

A Global Vision: The 4.xM Platform

Technology Evolution: As the exclusive R&D entity of Senvion India, RE Technologies GmbH has developed the 4.2M160 as part of its advanced 4MW platform, optimizing energy generation in low-wind regions through cutting-edge control and adaptive systems.

Specifications:

  • Rotor Size:160 meters
  • Hub Height:140 meters for the Indian prototype
  • Global Deployment:Poised for international markets, including Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and South America, with the prototype installation scheduled for mid 2025 in India.

Sustainable Timber-Hybrid Towers

RE Technologies and HASSLACHER Green Tower GmbH will jointly develop timber-hybrid towers for the 4.2M160, offering hub heights of 170 meters (prototype installation is planned for 2026, in Europe) and 200 meters (prototype installation is planned for 2027, in Europe). These towers, built from a highly efficient spatial framework structure, significantly reduce material usage while allowing for high-level prefabrication and optimized logistics.

Each timber-hybrid tower structure is expected to displace over 500 tonnes of CO2, contributing to RE Technologies’ broader sustainability mission. Beyond emissions reduction, the innovative design enables full turbine installation with a single crane, cutting the need for crane pads, boom downs, and storage areas by up to 50%. The collaboration also includes a tailored service concept and a unique buyback option for timber components, ensuring materials can be repurposed in standard construction applications. The CO2 will thus be bound for longer than it takes to regrow the same amount of wood.

  • Hub Heights: 170 meters (prototype installation in 2026) and 200 meters (2027), displacing over 500 tonnes of CO2 per structure.
  • Efficient Installation: A single-crane installation method reducing infrastructure needs by up to 50%, with HASSLACHER providing tower cranes.
  • Sustainable Material & Service: Advanced wood protection techniques ensuring low maintenance, along with a timber buyback option to promote reuse.

By focusing on low-wind, high-capacity turbines, RE Technologies is enabling a stable and efficient renewable energy transition. The integration of innovative tower materials, advanced blade technology, and cutting-edge turbine design positions the company at the forefront of the green energy revolution.

As RE Technologies accelerates its global presence, the 4.xM platform serves as a testament to its dedication to innovation, sustainability, and a cleaner energy future. With prototypes in both India and Europe, along with active customer discussions, the company is poised to play a significant role in shaping the next generation of wind energy solutions.
